BMR GROUPS SINCE 1991

BMR is a resounding name throughout the global aquaculture community and probably one of the most inspiring growth stories to be found across the industry. Just over 30 years after the company’s humble start in 1991, the vision of its charismatic founder Dr. B. Masthan Rao has led BMR group to become the industry leader in shrimp farming.

Founded in 1991 by Dr. B. Masthan Rao, the BMR Group has since expanded into a conglomerate of Multiple Seed Hatcheries, Shrimp processing facilities, Feed manufacturing facilities, Retail, and Exports to several countries.

Mr. Rao is popularly known as the “Father of  Vannamei Farming in India” for pioneering the use of Penaeus Vannamei in 2004. From being the first individual who introduced India to a new species called “L.Vannamei” to establishing India’s first ever Broodstock Multiplication Center in 2019, Mr. Rao’s contributions to the Indian Seafood industry have changed the face of the industry.

Processing Plant

BMR processing plant was established in 2014 near Dagadarti village, Nellore district, Andhra Pradesh, India. This world-class plant is a high-capacity, modern processing plant with two IQF (Individual Quick Frozen) machines, three-block freezer equipment, and cold storage of colossal capacity.

The plant is ASC-COC-certified, ISO-certified, and HACCP-compliant. It strictly complies with MPEDA and other guidelines in implementing best practices and maintaining the utmost hygiene.

We are vertically integrated with our own 13 shrimp hatcheries, 900 hectares along with 500 hectares, under contract farming, 2 shrimp feed mills, and a 65.7 Metric Ton-per-day capacity shrimp processing plant. We are also the largest shrimp seed supplier in India.

BMR Built On The Vision

As a beacon of professionalism and consistent quality, BMR aims to lead the aquaculture industry in India by example. Strongly believing in a vision of collective improvement and growth, the Group makes every effort possible to support local farms and aquaculture communities.

BMR group now owns 13 hectares of shrimp hatcheries, 900 hectares along with 500 hectares, under contract farming, on-site labs and feed mills, and a processing factory covering 50,000 sq. ft. with a capacity of 250 metric tons per day.

BMR’s shrimp feed plant in Damavaram, Nellore produces BMR premium Vannamei Feed in 6 varieties for each stage of the culture cycle: Crumble, Mini Pellet, Starter Pellet, Pre Grower, Grower, and Finisher.

Dr. Beeda Masthan Rao is a very active social worker. He was instrumental in setting up BMR Charitable Trust which operates of its own group funds. The trust focuses on the areas of Education, Health, Empowerment of Women, Encouragement of sports and supply of drinking water, etc. It conducts regular medical camps, housing accommodation to the poor and downtrodden, Supply of cots to Leprosy affected families in Bogole, laying of roads in Villages, construction of toilets in villages, etc. by spending more than Rs.6 crores. The trust encourages skill development activities to help unemployed rural youth. It regularly organizes blood donation camps, supports women’s self-help groups, and vocational training for girls and women.

On the political front, he dedicates a lot of his time to philanthropy, upliftment of the poor and support of the farmers in AP.

He was instrumental in taking up the cause of aqua farmers with the Government of AP and succeeded in getting the power supply at low tariff, subsidies to support the aqua farmers, etc.

He has provided employment opportunities to the local unemployed youth in his group which is helping them in supporting their families and lead a comfortable and secure life. On account of this, their living standards and social status are continuously improving, paving the way to a better tomorrow for their kin.

Dr. Masthan Rao, who is simple, kind-hearted, sincere, honest, ethical, and a man of noble values is revered greatly in society. He has been doing yeomen services not only to the aqua farmers but also to the downtrodden poor, unemployed rural youth.
